Upcoming Due Dates
Greetings everyone and Welcome to October!
Some information regarding the next week that you need to be aware of:
1. All Science classes will be having a quiz on the parts of the cell in terms of labelling only!
8M and 8K will be on October 5th and 8S will be on October 6th.
2. All Science classes will begin work on a 3D model of a cell. Students have been given the handout explaining this and we have gone over it in class. They will be using two classes in school to work on this....students can bring their materials with them to work in class. Due dates are as follows: 8M - October 7th, 8K - October 8th, 8S - October 12th.
Also, I have been in contact with the coordinator for the Bodies Exhibit and we are bouncing around a few dates to do the tour. Classes will be going on different days due to the number of students they can accomodate at one time. 8S and 8K will be going together and 8M and 7/8F will be going together. Students will be expected to do an assignment while they are there to be handed in to myself. The cost is $11.95 including the exhibit and the bus. Parents can join us for $9.95, but may not be able to ride the bus with us depending on the number of students going and the size of the bus we receive. Please let me know if you would be interested in joining us! I will be sending out more information as soon as a date is finalized. Lunch that day is yet to be determined.....we may be stopping on the way home.
Will keep you informed....if you have any questions regarding any of the above, please contact me.

WORMS!
Today we had Marilyn from Red Wriggler Haven come in and give us a presentation on the red wriggler worm. I had started a vermicomposting bin in my classroom in September and the students had some knowledge of seeing it and knowing what it was for, but not how it works and why it is important.
Today, Marilyn joined us to show us how to separate the compost from the worms and how to restart the bin. If you have any questions, or would like to pop by and see our vermicomposter....I would love to see you!
It was great to see numerous students really "get their hands dirty" and help with the sorting of the worms!
Thanks everyone!

Kaleidoscope
Students have made kaleidoscopes in Science today to benefit our light unit. Homework tonight involves bringing the kaleidoscope home to share how it works with you. Your job,as a parent, is to write me a note explaining how the kaleidoscope works. Please sign the note so that I know your child has done their job teaching you tonight!

Updated Engrade Marks
All marks have been entered into Engrade, with the exception of a couple of math marks. These will be entered by this evening. Any outstanding assignments will be done by students during their own time. Engrade reports will be given out on Friday. Starting next week, any outstanding work will have to be completed during the lunch hour. Please remind your son/daughter that they are still responsible for completing daily work. We are getting closer to report card time once again and students must make a conscious effort to complete their work on a daily basis.

Ordered Pairs & Math
Today we worked on Ordered Pairs, Table of Values and Equations. Students were able to use an equation to figure out the table of values and the ordered pairs. In the near future, we will be able to graph this information as well. An update will be available when that happens. Students are responsible for pages 29, 30 and 31 in their booklets for next class. Most finished this assignment in class.
Also, a reminder that there is a small integer quiz on Friday. Students are to be able to calculate the answer when given addition, subtraction, multiplication and division questions using integers. Also, there will be some questions where they have to use Order of Operations.

Work to be done for Next Class
Math: Students are to be finishing the booklet from yesterday and doing the even numbers on page 54. They are also to complete pages 18-20 in their Math booklets. These pages are based on the types of questions that we have been practising.
Science: Students are to have handed in the experiment questions and graph. They were given a booklet today as a review for the information we have already gone over in class. This is due for next Science class.
Have a great weekend!

Math Today
Students have been working on Integers in class both yesterday and today. Yesterday we worked on the addition and subtraction of Integers and things went well.....Unfortunately, some students did not finish the work that was to be done and have spent today's lunch hour finishing it (8M). 8S students who had not complete the assignment will be spending lunch hour with me tomorrow to finish.
Today students were working on Multiplying and Dividing Integers and Order of Operations with the Integers. Students are to have page 53 completed and the EVEN numbers only on page 54 completed for tomorrow. Many students have already completed or almost completed the assignment in class. This assignment does require some "quiet time and space" to get this done at home.
Enjoy your evening.....Friday is just around the corner.

Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2010!! We are getting back into the swing of things this week. In Math, we will be reviewing the Multiplying and Dividing of both fractions and integers. And we will certainly be going over the adding and subtracting of integers as well.....seems like a number of students have forgotten how to go about doing those questions. Next week we will be starting the very beginning of algebra! Yay!
I have had some difficulty with Engrade over the holidays, so I hope to get the marks entered from the December assignments entered over the next few days. I will keep you up to date.
