Rubric for the Body System PowerPoint

In Math we have gone over Dividing Fractions.  Please see the attached notes for more information.  Also, the human body cut-outs we have been working on are coming together and are due on Thursday, December 3.

This is an individual project which will consist of a PowerPoint presentation and an oral presentation. You will be given computer class time to complete the PowerPoint part of the project.



In your project, you must include the following:



 The name of your body system

 Organs included in your body system

 Interactions with other body systems

 How the body system works

 Diseases or conditions associated with the body system





**these criteria must be covered within the two parts of the project. You may want to include the information in both parts…..but all information must be covered!



Please see the attached rubric for grading purposes.



The body systems covered will be:

• Respiratory system

• Circulatory system

• Digestive system

• Nervous system

• Muscular system

• Skeletal system

I will be including the Rubric next week.  Have been having some difficulty uploading it.  However, your child can at least do some research to help with their project!

Today we began Multiplying Fractions in Math.  I am including the notes from today.  Also, in Science for both 8S and 8M, we watched and discussed the videos from the Fox Sports Network show called Sport Science.  I am including the links to those clips as well.

For those of you who I was going to meet with on Friday, my Parent Teacher night has been changed to Thursday.  I have sent an email to those of you who had made appointments previously.  Please email me back to confirm the changes. 
We will be having a test in Math on Thursday in regards to Rate, Ratio and Proportion.  We are in the process of reviewing the work.

Comparing Rates

Greetings everyone!  Students are receiving their Math tests on Percent back today.  If they did not pass, they have the opportunity to get 50% by doing questions over on the test and handing it in no later than Friday.  Also, they must have the questions correct in order to get to the 50%.  Also, students have been given their Engrade reports and any and all missing assignments completed and handed in by Friday.  I am including the Math notes from today.

Monday, November 16, 2009

Well, we did not have students in class today, but I did manage to get caught up with my marking.  Engrade is now up to date!  I will be printing out individual Engrade reports for each student.  This way they will be aware of what they are missing in regards to assignments.  Students will have until Friday to get any and all missing assignments handed in.  After Friday, I will not be marking them.  Report cards will be coming out on December 3rd and my marks must be into the computer system well before that.
Also, I am not available on Parent-Teacher evening this Thursday, November 19th.  However, I am looking at setting up a day where I can set up my own appointments after school.  I will get back to you as soon as I figure out what day I am able to stay.  I am looking at probably doing the meetings from 4- 6:30 or so.  Let me know if you have any suggestions.

November 12

Math 8S:  Students are to complete pages 33-37 inclusive for class tomorrow.  We will be correcting it at the beginning of class.

A Day of Remembrance

First, as part of the Middle Years Assembly today, I would like to thank all the students for being such wonderful ambassadors of our school.  You showed wonderful respect today during the service.
In Math, we have begun Ratios.  Attached are the notes from today.  Exercise #12, pages 30-32 are due for Thursday.  Please remember that there is no school tomorrow and........ thank a veteran!

Math!

Just a reminder that the Math test is on Monday.  I have included the brief Review that I have given today.  Students were given a math worksheet on percent problems and these are due on Monday.  Tomorrow's class will be time to finish these questions and to study for the test or ask questions.
In Science yesterday, we went over the parts of the Respiratory System.  Today, students were given a booklet on Respiration with questions.  These are due next Science class.

Tuesday, November 3rd

Today, 8S is responsible for completing pages 27-29 in their math booklet.  As well, the Science booklet on digestion is to be completed for next Science class.....we will be correcting it in class.

Today in 8M, we looked at how to solve Discount Problems.  You will find the notes attached.  Pages 27-29 are for homework and are due tomorrow morning.  8S students will be doing these questions tomorrow.
